Or is it because one response was all you got from the person and no further ones. I have found that some people will change their mind about something for one reason or another - both models and photographers - and then instead of sending a polite e-mail to explain they just stop responding all together. But - are those really the type of people you want to work with.
Try and be really active in the forums - and update your portfolio as frequently as possible to get the most hits on your website. Also - if you have not already done so - upgrading your membership will increase your visibility on the site.
